Disney Commission Explanation
We wanted to make you aware of some changes in the way DTA displays pricing that have caused some confusion.
First, commissions have not changed. All is well!
The confusion comes from what Disney now displays. Disney is displaying less itemization in packages and cruises so you as the travel agent have less visibility to the pricing breakdown.
What this means when booking packages
- The Subtotal is no longer a "pre-tax price". This Subtotal now includes the taxes.
What this means when booking DCL sailings
- There are commissionable and non-commissionable portions of each cruise fare. These are now lumped together, but still shown separately from the taxes, port fees, etc. So you don't get to see a specific amount that displays the commissionable portion of the cruise fare. Typically the non-commissionable portion of the cruise fare equals $25 per person, per night.
What to do
- Be meticulous during the booking process to write down your commission amounts. You won't be able to manually calculate these after the fact.
In the past you were able to calculate your own commission on a package by simply calculating **10% of the pre-tax total**. Now, you won't be able to see a pre-tax total so you won't be able to make that calculation.
In the past you were able to calculate your own commission on a cruise by simply calculating 10% of the commissionable portion of the actual cruise fare. Now, that is lumped together with the non-commissionable portion of the cruise fare so you won't be able to separate the two. You can generally nail down the number by subtracting $25 per person per night as the non-commissionable portion of the cruise fare.
If you do find that you've forgotten to write down your commission on a booking, and it is time for you to submit your commission request, go ahead and submit your commission request with a $0 gross commission and we will track it down and apply the appropriate amount.
** Packages containing one or two day tickets to Walt Disney World or one day ticket to Disneyland do not receive commission on the ticket portion of the package**
--- Something you can try to understand the numbers a little bit better ---
Create a package but don't add tickets. You'll see the tax broken out. Once you add tickets, the tax disappears and everything gets lumped into the "Subtotal". You can subtract tax from the Subtotal and you'll see that you're getting 10% of the pre-tax price. Note that tickets to DLR do not have tax added, so the numbers match exactly. Tickets to WDW do have tax added so the tax amount from the "without tickets" will be slightly off from the new Subtotal amount because of that extra tax on the tickets.
